On 7-8 May, SSMC took an active part in contributing to SEMICON Singapore 2013 event. The event featured market trends briefing which was chaired by Mr. Jagadish, member of SEMI Singapore Regional Advisory Board and CEO of SSMC. Topics on market trends and technology challenges were shared by speakers from the Semiconductor industry, market analyst and SEMI researcher. Also, Jagadish participated as a panelist for the SEMICON University program which was a dialogue session between the industry leaders and students from Polytechnic institutes in Singapore. The aim was to highlight the importance of educating a skilled workforce; to drive future growth of the industry in Singapore; and addressing the curious students who are undertaking studies in the pursuits of entering careers in electronic and semiconductor fields.

SSMC had been actively promoting good workplace safety and health practices through its in-house Safety Drawing Competition since 2008. And this year, we invited our employees to take part in the Singapore’s National Workplace Safety & Health Campaign 2013. On 20 May 2013, SSMC’s Daniel Yap, our staff in Purchasing Department, was awarded the bronze prize by the Workplace Safety and Health Council for the “Safety starts with me” Poster Drawing Competition. Daniel’s drawing of a human spine received plaudits from 6 prominent judges from WSH Council & industry representatives.

Read on SSMC’s transformation in moving towards higher value-added niche areas by producing not just simple digital logic chips, but high-performance mixed signal devices to stay competitive. Our CEO, Mr. Jagadish CV, also shared his views regarding Singapore’s infrastructural costs and competing with Taiwan, Korea, China and even emerging economies. As for its long term sustainable growth in Singapore, he also stressed the company’s focus on “taking ownership of costs”, and the importance of the continuous building of infrastructure and ecosystem for electronics sector.

12 Apr 2013 marks the 10th annual drill exercise of SSMC’s Business Continuity Management (BCM) to proactively getting itself ready for emergency responses. Since 2004, SSMC has been vigilantly conducting BCM exercise, with different scenarios simulated to test and review our BCP every year. This year, we focus on employee communication, in the aspect of trauma handling, as well as mass media handling after a fire incident occurred at Fab Annex 3. In the 5-hour drill, participants from all level of organization were fully engaged in the role plays and recovery and damage assessment exercise. Mr. Jagadish CV, CEO of SSMC, summed up the key spirit of BCM as “Expect the Unexpected! Be Proactive than reactive.

On 23 Mar, marked the fifth consecutive year that SSMC supported the Earth Hour campaign of WWF (World Wide Fund). In the celebration of Earth Hour 2013, SSMC’s office, cafeteria and car park areas had all non-emergency lights switch-off from 8.30pm to 9.30pm. Also staff outside company was encouraged to support this event by switching off the lights at home and pass on the environment-friendly message to family, friends and our future generations! |

In the sunny Saturday morning of 16 March 2013, SSMC was joined by 3,000 people from schools, grassroots organizations and public communities to raise awareness on conserving water resources through participation in brisk-walking and family picnic at our adopted waterway – the Lorong Halus Wetland. The water centric event, organized by Singapore Public Utility Board (PUB), aims to bring people closer to the water, and to instil a sense of ownership of our waters and the community spaces around them. As a participating partner and event sponsor, Mr. Jagadish, our CEO was presented the Certificate of Appreciation by Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Teo Chee Hean, for SSMC’s continuous support to PUB’s effort in promoting water conservation in the annual event.

6th Feb 2013 marked a special occasion for SSMC, as we celebrated our continued transformation into a world class semiconductor company with an enhanced logo signage displayed at the main gate of SSMC premises. Mr. Jagadish CV, CEO of SSMC unveiled the new silver metallic logo, which was applauded by over 80 impressed and excited spectators. This is more than just a signage change, the new logo signifies SSMC’s continued journey of transformation. This new logo is larger, more solid and vibrant representing SSMC’s growth and transformation into a Fab with recognized world class performance.
