SSMC is presently a joint venture of NXP B.V (NXP) and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company LTD (TSMC). It was originally founded by Philips, TSMC and the Economic Development Board Investments Pte Ltd (EDBI).

Manufacturing began in 2000 and within 3 years, SSMC has grown into a sought after provider of CMOS foundry services.
